How to build a league or tournament, step by step

Five short steps on your phone. Say who plays and how it is won; the app asks only what that format needs.

Admin -> Create Event. Five steps, one screen each, with Back and Next. Every answer can be changed later on the event's Settings tab, even after the event starts — the same questions, and the standings follow.

1. Who plays, and how it is won

Players on their own, or teams of 2, 3 or 4. Then how it is won:

  • Season total: everyone plays the week's course; each player's best weeks are added up and the lowest total wins. You choose how many weeks count (8 of 12, say).
  • Every round counts: a tournament over a set number of rounds, with a cut after a round if you want one.
  • Head-to-head: each week every player is paired with an opponent and the lower score wins the week. You set the points for a win, a tie and a loss (2 for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss unless you change them); the most points wins the league. Every week counts, and each matchup is decided on net or on gross — net lets a higher handicap beat a better player.
  • Match play each week: hole by hole against your opponent, points for each match.
  • Match play bracket: a knockout — win and move on.

For teams the same choices — a head-to-head league, a season total of the team's best weeks, every round counts (a scramble night, a two-day event) — plus the Ryder Cup. Then how each team plays: scramble, best ball, alternate shot, shamble, or mixed (a style for each set of holes), and whether scores are compared on net or gross.

2. Rounds and courses

  • Up to 52 weeks or rounds.
  • The course and tee for each round. The course you pick is the rule: a card from another course does not count.
  • Weekly dates fill in from the start date, seven days a round. Change any date.
  • A season total: how many weeks count, and so how many bye weeks — a week a player misses is their bye, and it costs nothing as long as they play the weeks that count. Net, gross or both: a net winner and a gross winner.
  • A round over a holiday can run two weeks; the rounds after it move back by themselves.

3. Entry and prizes

  • The entry fee — for each player or for the whole team — and the most players or teams.
  • For a team: who pays — the captain for everyone, each player their own share, or either (the team chooses).
  • A members' discount, a percent or a dollar amount off: a member types your member code before paying.
  • Perks for the players in the event — a percent off their tee times, or anything else — from its first day to its last.
  • Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd — two lists when there are a gross winner and a net winner. The sign-up page, the dashboard and the TV board show every prize and perk.

4. Rules

  • How scores come in: the AI reads the photo of the GSPro scorecard, or players type their holes and the front desk approves them.
  • Declaring a round before it is played, and the GSPro settings every card is checked against (Realism: Force Realistic, Elevation: Global, Mulligans: Off and Gimmes: 6 ft or less as standard).
  • Handicaps and ties: the World Handicap System allowance for the format and how ties are settled, already set — tap to change them.

5. Review and create

Your answers on one screen, each with Change. Create — and every member is told about it (the box is ticked).

After it is made

  • Head-to-head or match play: when sign-up is done, tap Pair players (or Pair teams). Everyone gets an opponent each week for every week of the event; with more weeks than opponents, they meet again.
  • Each round the Today tab shows the deadline, who is in and who is not, and reminds the ones not in with one tap.

Examples

  • A 2-player scramble league, head-to-head for 12 weeks: Teams -> Head-to-head league -> Scramble, 2 players -> net -> 12 weeks -> Pair teams when sign-up closes.
  • A winter league where the best 8 of 12 weeks count: Players on their own -> Season total -> 12 weeks, 8 count.
  • A club championship: Players on their own -> Every round counts -> 4 rounds, a cut after round 2.
  • A Saturday scramble: Teams -> Every round counts -> Scramble, 4 players -> 1 round.
